Landour, Mussoorie is one of India's most significant hill stations. The tranquil corner, located barely half an hour from Mussoorie, attracts vacationers all year. For a while, the area remained off-limits to Indians, serving as a private retreat for the British.
This hideaway with homes and churches stayed hidden for around 70 years after independence. A walking trip through the mountains intermingled with marmalades and jams from the region makes for a fantastic holiday.
Places to visit in Landour
Landour is known for the first Tibetan settlement in India, historic cottages, and an abundance of delicious food. You may begin your walking tour at the Mullingar mansion. The oldest business in town, it provides a glimpse into the past. Ivy Cottage, on the other hand, is where Ruskin Bond wrote the most of his renowned writings. If you stroll the roads frequently enough, you could run meet the storyteller himself, as he is a frequent visitor.
Tibetians settled into Landour at Happy Valley.
Happy Valley arrives on your route to Cloud's End, which was formerly described as the most beautiful mansion in the hill station. The Valley is beautiful, with a little Buddhist temple that tells the narrative of Tibetan exiles. Cloud's End, previously home to Major Swetenham, is now a heritage hotel with a charming restaurant named Rose.
Shall we eat?
Indian hill stations, which were popular with the British, still practise traditional customs. Anil Prakash Store can be found by walking to Sister's Baazar. The shop, which opened when the proprietor acquired a British treasure chest of machinery, sells a plethora of marmalades, jams, and cheeses. Landour bakehouse is the place to go if you want to try some pastries.
Crepes, pancakes, cakes, and everything else are readily available in this historic bakehouse. Chark Dukan is his polar opposite. Landour Char Dukan is a cluster of Indian businesses that sell the standard hill station fare like Maggi and ginger tea.
