"Happiness depends on ourselves," said Aristotle, the renowned Greek philosopher.  Happiness is described as a state of mind, and it is a feeling that we want and strive for every single day. While you may do everything in your power to be truly happy and make your loved ones happy, have you ever considered what makes a nation happy? And how can one know if a country is content?

The World Happiness Report recently released its annual rating of the world's happiest countries. The research is developed by the UN (United Nations) Sustainable Development Solution Network and it ranks more than 150 countries as the happiest in the world based on the six pillars listed below.

  •  GDP (Gross Domestic Product) per capita
  •     Social Support
  •     Health of the general population
  •     Freedom to make own life choices
  •     Generosity of general population
  •     Corruption levels

Based on the aforementioned parameters, the World Happiness Report calculates the happiness gap between the world's most and least happy countries. This year, in 2023, Finland was named the happiest country in the world, followed by Denmark and Iceland in second and third place, respectively.
